Disabled access and facilities
Disabled parking is located by the entrance to the car park and opposite the Beach Café. During summer, when spaces fill up quickly, we also reserve an area behind our Workshop.
Accessible toilets are located at each toilet block (car park entrance, Beach Café, and towards East Head). They are accessed by RADAR key. RADAR keys can be obtained from the Estate Office, Workshop, Beach Café, and Lifeguard Headquarters. A full disabled/changing place unit will form part of our new Safety & Facilities Hub, due for completion Summer 2024.
Beach Access
Access to the beach is limited to a steep concrete ramp by the windsurf club. Access elsewhere is made extremely difficult due to shifting sand and pebbles. The sand is very fine and may cause damage to your wheelchair. We therefore recommend using our beach wheelchairs which can be borrowed for a small deposit. There is no charge for this, just a deposit of £20 which is fully refunded when the wheelchair is returned.
Sandcruiser and Sandpiper Beach Wheelchairs
To assist our less able visitors to enjoy the beach, we have four Sandcruiser (adult) and one Sandpiper (child) beach wheelchairs, one which was very kindly donated to us for our visitors' use and the rest we provided ourselves.
Large balloon tyres for beach access.
Front castor wheels which allow a full 360° turn.
48cm seat height, with raising arm rests to make transferring safe and easy.
Adjustable leg rests for maximum comfort.
These beach wheelchairs are popular and it is advisable to book in advance to avoid disappointment. To make a booking, please contact the estate office on 01243 514143 (Monday to Friday 9:00-16:00) or follow the email link below.
