West Wittering Beach: Rated 'Excellent'

We’re delighted to announce that West Wittering Beach has once again achieved the ‘Excellent’ rating for water quality from the Environment Agency for 2024. This top-tier classification reflects the exceptional natural conditions of our area, providing visitors with safe and clean water for swimming and other activities.

In a year where many bathing waters across the country have faced challenges—marked by a rise in beaches classified as ‘Poor’—West Wittering remains a standout destination. Our location benefits from fortunate environmental conditions, with no nearby sewage outlets impacting our waters, contributing to consistently high water quality standards over many years.

This year, only 64.2% of England’s 450 bathing waters received the ‘Excellent’ classification, down from 72.1% in 2021. Simultaneously, the proportion of sites rated ‘Poor’ has increased. Despite these national trends, West Wittering continues to offer some of the cleanest bathing waters in England.

The Environment Agency’s rigorous testing and monitoring ensure compliance with strict regulations, and we are proud to share these positive results with our visitors.

While we cannot take direct credit for these results, we’re immensely grateful for the unique geography and natural advantages of our area. Together with our commitment to environmental stewardship and conservation efforts across the estate, these factors contribute to making West Wittering a safe, enjoyable, and beautiful destination for everyone.

We encourage all visitors to continue helping us protect this special place by respecting the natural environment and following our sustainability guidelines.
